Growing Tips for Elmer’s Glue

Elmer’s Glue is a tough strain to grow and should only be attempted by cultivators with extensive experience. Elmer’s Glue marijuana plants will thrive indoors and outdoors, but have an easier time growing indoors because of the ability to completely control the climate. If you choose to grow indoors, you will have to replicate a steady environment similar to the climate of the Mediterranean. Elmer’s Glue cannabis seeds produce plants with frosty green and white buds due to the amount of resinous trichomes covering the bud sites. It is those same trichomes that make this strain super sticky and give it its name. If you choose to grow outdoors, you will need to hope for consistent temperature and humidity to grow these plants to completion. Doing so will ensure that you grow healthy buds from the top of the plants to the buds closest to the soil. Having access to a greenhouse is the best way to give these plants the perfect outdoor climate without having to put up with unexpected outdoor variables. These plants grow to a medium/tall height and can reach around 60–210 centimetres tall. Because the plants can reach a maximum indoor and outdoor height of 210 centimetres, they may require more vertical grow space than shorter indoor plants. The ideal temperature for these plants is around 21–27 degrees Celsius and slightly cooler at night. Humidity levels should be kept around 40–60% during the vegetative growth stage and the flowering stage, but lowering the humidity every week will help this plant grow. Growing indoors will ensure that moderate humidity levels and moderate temperatures are consistent and maintained every day that the plants are in the growing stages. Screen of Green (ScrOG), High-stress training (HST), and Low-stress training (LST) methods are the best training techniques for this particular strain of cannabis. If performed correctly and at the right time, these techniques will promote bud production and increase final yields. These methods will help to adjust the plant height and width so that they are more manageable. LST manipulates the plant to increase the size and density of the buds, while the Screen of Green method reinforces the heaviest bud sites so the branches don’t break. The Elmer’s Glue strain requires an 18–20 hour light cycle to reach the vegetative growth stage. Changing the light cycle to a 12/12 cycle will induce the flowering stage of growth and get you to your harvest date.

Yields, Flowering Time, and Harvest

  • Flowering Time: Growing indoors, you can expect the Elmer’s Glue strain to harvest after a short flowering period of 50–60 days.
  • Yields: Indoor yields are around 450 grams per square metre, while outdoor grows typically produce up to 450 grams per plant. Considering the shorter growth time, these yields are impressive.
  • Harvest: Outdoor growers in Canada can plan on harvesting their yields around the beginning of October, depending on when the seeds were planted.

Elmer’s Glue: Sticky Sweet Bud

The Elmer’s Glue cannabis strain terpene profile is directly responsible for how the plant smells and tastes, and the strong effects it has on its users. The most dominant terpene in this strain is caryophyllene, while myrcene and bisabolol are the secondary terpenes.

  • Caryophyllene: Most Dominant - Spicy and peppery, caryophyllene is mostly found in cloves, black pepper, and cannabis plants.
  • Myrcene: Secondary Terpene - Myrcene is responsible for some cannabis strains’ earthy and woody flavour and aroma.
  • Bisabolol: Sweet Aroma - A naturally occurring sesquiterpene, bisabolol gives cannabis plants their rich and fragrant aroma.
