Growing Tips for Berry Noir

If you're new to growing, with little experience under your gardening gloves and a rookie green thumb, then Berry Noir probably isn't the strain you want to cut your teeth on. It tends to be fussy and difficult, even for intermediate growers. Berry Noir will thrive indoors using either hydroponics or natural, nutrient-rich soil. You can grow Berry Noir either indoors or outdoors and have equally successful grows in both environments. Indoors will be a slightly easier grow because you are able to closely replicate and control the growing environment. Outside, this delicious hybrid requires a warm, sunny climate to achieve its maximum potential. Think about a Mediterranean-style climate, which provides the best growing conditions for this specific strain of cannabis. In Canada, regions such as southern British Columbia and southern Ontario can offer suitable outdoor conditions during the warmer months. This strain can work its way into your grow plans season after season. The ideal temperature for these plants is around 21–27°C. Humidity levels should be kept around 50–70% during the vegetative stage and maintained at 40–50% during the flowering stage of growth. Berry Noir responds very well to the Screen of Green method as well as Low-stress training (LST). These methods will increase yields by promoting growth in all of the bud sites. The Screen of Green method is used to reinforce the branches of the plant by using a screen near the buds. This technique keeps the branches from breaking under the weight of the heavy buds. Both techniques will ultimately increase your yields come harvest time. Berry Noir plants require an 18–20 hour light cycle to get them started and to get them through the vegetative stage. To induce the flowering stage of growth, you will need to change the light cycle to a 12/12 cycle. You can maintain this light cycle through to your harvest.

Yields, Flowering Time, and Harvest

  • Flowering Time: Growing indoors, you can expect the Berry Noir strain to harvest after a short flowering period of 55–65 days.
  • Yields: Indoor yields are around 450 grams per square metre, while outdoor grows typically produce up to 450 grams per plant. These yields are a welcome reward for all the hard work it takes to bring this strain to fruition. Keep in mind, these buds are packed with THC, making them more potent than your average strain.
  • Harvest: Outdoor grows should be ready to harvest around the beginning of October, depending on when you planted your seeds.

Berry Noir: Fruity, Skunky, Sweet

The Berry Noir terpene profile is directly responsible for how the plant smells and tastes, and the strong effects it has on its users. The most dominant terpene in this strain is bisabolol, while humulene and limonene are the secondary terpenes.

  • Bisabolol: Most Dominant – Found mostly in Indica-dominant strains of cannabis. Bisabolol gives cannabis its gentle, floral scent and smooth flavours.
  • Humulene: Secondary Terpene - Found in beer with high hop content, this terpene is known for its earthy aroma and flavour.
  • Limonene: Citrus Fruits - Limonene can be found in abundance in the rinds of citrus fruits and in cannabis plants. This terpene helps decrease anxiety and improve lung function.
