Growing Tips for Banana Diesel
Banana Diesel plants are easy to grow, even if it is your first time cultivating your own cannabis plants. Intermediate and master-level growers shouldn't have any issues bringing this strain to fruition. You can grow Banana Diesel both indoors and outdoors under the correct conditions. Indoor grows tend to be easier because the conditions can be controlled from beginning to end. These plants require a warm, sunny, and semi-humid environment to really reach their peak. Think of a warm Canadian summer; that is the kind of environment you should be trying to replicate indoors. If you are planning to grow outdoors, you will need to do so in the summertime to provide the plant(s) with the most sunlight, best air quality, and correct temperatures and humidity for this strain to thrive. If you live in an area with a longer warm season, you can take full advantage of the growing window as long as the nighttime temperatures don't drop too low. These plants grow medium to tall, so you will need to clear out enough space for these plants to stretch out. The ideal temperature for these plants is between 21–29 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels of approximately 60–70% during the vegetative phase, gradually decreasing to between 40–50% during the flowering stage, will ensure a healthy grow. Low-Stress Training (LST) is the best method used to train these plants. LST is less stressful on the plant and the grower. This technique will help light reach all levels of the plant evenly, creating a well-balanced grow with huge buds growing from top to bottom. This technique will ultimately increase your yields come harvest time. Banana Diesel plants require an 18–20 hour light cycle to get them started and to get them through the vegetative stage. To induce the flowering stage of growth, you will need to change the light cycle to a 12/12 cycle. You can maintain this light cycle through to your harvest.
Yields, Flowering Time, and Harvest
- Flowering Time: Growing indoors, you can expect the Banana Diesel strain to harvest after a short flowering period of 55–65 days.
- Yields: Indoor yields are around 500 grams per square metre, while outdoor grows typically produce up to 600 grams per plant. These yields are massive and come at the end of an easy grow and short flowering period. First-time growers should be very happy with these yield numbers.
- Harvest: Outdoor grows should be ready to harvest around the beginning of October, depending on when you planted your seeds.
Banana Diesel: Sweet Diesel Flavour
The Banana Diesel terpene profile is directly responsible for how the plant smells and tastes, and the strong effects it has on its users. The most dominant terpene in this strain is caryophyllene, while myrcene and limonene are the secondary terpenes.
- Caryophyllene: Most Dominant – The "spicy and peppery" terpene. Found in cinnamon, cloves, black pepper, and cannabis.
- Myrcene: Secondary Terpene - Known in the cannabis world as the "Mother of all Terpenes", myrcene gives cannabis its earthy flavour and aroma.
- Limonene: Citrus Fruits - Limonene can be found in abundance in the rinds of citrus fruits and in cannabis plants. This terpene helps decrease anxiety and improve lung function.
