Growing Tips for Aurora

Aurora plants can be difficult to grow if you don't have any prior experience cultivating cannabis. Intermediate and master-level growers shouldn't have any issues bringing this strain to fruition. You can grow Aurora both indoors and outdoors under the correct conditions. Indoor grows tend to be easier because the conditions can be controlled from beginning to end. Replicating a Mediterranean-type environment is your best bet at growing big, full buds of THC-rich cannabis. If you are planning to grow outdoors, you will need to do so in the summertime to provide the plant(s) with the most sunlight, best air quality, and correct temperatures and humidity for this strain to thrive. If you live in an area of Canada with favourable weather during the summer months, you can plan your outdoor grow accordingly. The plants tend to grow medium to tall in height, so you will need to consider space when planning your grow. Ample vertical space and lateral space are needed so these plants don't grow on top of one another. The more room these plants have, the fuller they will grow. The ideal temperature for these plants is between 21–27 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels of approximately 60% during the vegetative phase, gradually decreasing to 40% during the flowering stage, will ensure a healthy grow. Low-Stress Training (LST) and Sea of Green are the best methods of training for these plants. These plants benefit from having a lot of space to stretch out, especially the root system, which tends to sprawl out laterally. Aurora plants require an 18–20 hour light cycle to get them started through the vegetative stage. To induce the flowering stage of growth, you will need to change the light cycle to a 12/12 cycle. You can maintain this light cycle through to your harvest.

Yields, Flowering Time, and Harvest

  • Flowering Time: Growing indoors, you can expect the Aurora strain to harvest after a flowering period of 65–75 days.
  • Yields: Indoor yields are around 400 grams per square metre, while outdoor grows typically produce up to 400 grams per plant. Even though the flowering period is a little longer with this strain, the outcome is the same as other Indica-dominant hybrids: lots of dense, THC-rich buds. These yields are fantastic considering the amount of work it takes to get to harvest.
  • Harvest: Outdoor grows should be ready to harvest around the middle of October, depending on when you planted your seeds.

Aurora: Sweet and Herbal

The Aurora terpene profile is directly responsible for how the plant smells and tastes, and the strong effects it has on its users. The most dominant terpene in this strain is caryophyllene, while myrcene and limonene are the secondary terpenes.

  • Caryophyllene: Most Dominant – The "spicy and peppery" terpene. Found in cinnamon, cloves, black pepper, and cannabis.
  • Myrcene: Secondary Terpene - Known in the cannabis world as the "Mother of all Terpenes", myrcene gives cannabis its earthy flavour and aroma.
  • Limonene: Citrus Fruits - Limonene can be found in abundance in the rinds of citrus fruits and in cannabis plants. This terpene helps decrease anxiety and improve lung function.
