Growing Tips for Arctic Sun Seeds

Arctic Sun seeds are incredibly easy to grow, even if you have limited experience growing your own cannabis. Although this strain was originally crafted in Amsterdam, it requires warmth, sunlight, and fresh air to grow to completion. If you are going to take on this grow, you will need to replicate warm summers similar to those of the Mediterranean to provide it with the correct environment, indoors or outdoors. Indoor growers will need nutrient-rich soil, ample high-intensity lighting, and the perfect temperature range and humidity to produce favourable yields come harvest time. Outdoor growers with access to a greenhouse will have an easier time bringing this strain to harvest, as greenhouses provide a similar climate to that of an indoor grow and can be controlled throughout the duration of the grow cycle. If you don't have access to a greenhouse, then you will need to plan out a window of clear skies and warm weather, typically during the late spring and summertime, depending on where you are located in Canada, to bring this strain to fruition. Arctic Sun grows tall and will need the right amount of space to grow both vertically and laterally without issue. Growing indoors, you will need to adjust the lights so that they don't burn the top buds. Providing a consistent temperature range of 21–27 degrees Celsius and ensuring relative humidity levels stay around 40–70% is critical for optimal growth. Outdoor cultivation requires warmth and humidity with lots of sunlight to produce bud-rich, resin-coated plants. Topping and low-stress training (LST) are the best methods for this plant because they both adjust the canopy so that light penetration and air reach the lower levels of the plant. Arctic Sun grows tall, so adjusting the top of the plant or the canopy is crucial in reaching peak harvests. Routine maintenance on the branches and canopy will help increase yields. During the vegetative stage, you should provide 18–20 hours of light each day. You will need to change the light cycle from 18–20 hours to a 12/12 cycle to induce the flowering stage of growth. This change will get you through flowering and into harvest. Please note that in Canada, personal cultivation is permitted for up to 4 plants per household, though rules may vary by province.

Yields, Flowering Time, and Harvest

  • Flowering Time: Growing indoors, you can expect the Arctic Sun strain to harvest after a flowering period of 50–70 days.
  • Yields: Indoor yields are around 450 grams per square metre, while outdoor grows typically produce up to 450 grams per plant. These yields are fantastic, especially when you consider that this grow is easy, even for first-time or novice cannabis cultivators. Keep in mind that these plants grow taller than your average cannabis strains, so that will need to be considered when harvesting.
  • Harvest: Outdoor grows should be ready to harvest around the middle to the end of October, depending on when you planted your seeds.

Arctic Sun Terpenes: Flowery Diesel

The Arctic Sun terpene profile is directly responsible for how the plant smells and tastes, and the strong effects it has on its users. The most dominant terpene in this strain is caryophyllene, while limonene and myrcene are the secondary terpenes.

  • Caryophyllene: Most Dominant – This terpene produces a peppery and spicy flavour and aroma when found in cannabis.
  • Limonene: Secondary Terpene – Found mostly in the rinds of citrus fruits, this terpene helps with anxiety and improves lung function.
  • Myrcene: Mother of All Terpenes - Myrcene can be found in a number of cannabis strains and provides the herb with an earthy and woody flavour and aroma.
