El Jefe: Boss-Like Body Buzz

It’s not uncommon that two lesser-known parent strains create a massive hit in the cannabis community. The genius botanists and horticulturalists who bred this bud did the world a favour because El Jefe is highly sought after. Its unique flavour profile mixed with its heavy Indica effects has made it a fan favourite in a relatively short amount of time.

This strain’s hefty THC content of around 25% means that it hits like a truck, just a few small tokes, and you will feel the effects of El Jefe. Growers will appreciate the dusty resinous trichomes covering the mature buds. The strain is notorious for its strong, earthy, and hash-like scent. Because the plants are smaller in size, growers should be able to grow more plants in a smaller area, and this strain is ideal for indoor grow setups like closets, balconies, and even compact gardens in an outdoor setup.

Growing Tips for El Jefe Seeds

El Jefe plants grow anywhere from 2-3 feet indoors to up to 3 feet tall outdoors. Like many cannabis strains, it performs best in a closely-controlled environment, but because it can endure minor dips and spikes concerning heat and moisture, it serves as a practical choice for newer growers. Below, we’ve provided effective ways to simplify and streamline the growing process.

Establish consistent conditions

Daytime temperatures of approximately 21-29 degrees Celsius are ideal for El Jefe plants. It is recommended that you drop the temperature 3-6 degrees during the flowering stages. Humidity levels should fall between 40-70% during the vegetative stage, and drop to 40-50% during the flowering phase. A reduction in moisture helps eliminate the risk of mould while encouraging a more potent terpene profile.

Recommended Training Techniques

Low-stress Training and Topping are the best techniques for this particular strain. Both of these techniques will allow the plant to grow naturally without much outside influence. Topping the plant requires a bit of trimming to the top-most buds to allow air flow and light to reach the lower levels, ultimately creating even level growth from top to bottom.

Fine-tune nutrient levels

All cannabis plants benefit from nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (NPK). During vegetative growth, El Jefe prefers a well-balanced nutrient cycle throughout the growth, as it promotes leaf and stem production. Adding calcium and magnesium will assist in strong limbs and buds. However, because nitrogen encourages leaf growth, it’s important to reduce levels during the flowering stage. This will allow your plants to channel their efforts towards resin-rich bud development instead. To lower nitrogen levels, try using a bloom formula or simply dilute your existing feed.

Germinating Your El Jefe Seeds

Our straightforward germination guide is an easy-to-understand way for growers of all skill levels to start the growing process. If you have basic items on hand, such as paper towels and water, you can germinate your El Jefe seeds like a pro.

Our step-by-step process allows taproots to emerge within 3–7 days, following which your seeds can be transferred to nutrient-rich soil, a hydroponic setup, or another growing medium of your choice. As an added benefit, growers who use our technique can cultivate with confidence, knowing their seeds are fully protected by our germination guarantee

Yields, Flowering Times, and Harvest

The El Jefe strain has a flowering period of approximately 55-65 days, with outdoor harvests typically occurring in early October. Indoor growers will produce up to 400 grams of trichome-rich buds under proper care, while outdoor growers may see yields of up to 900 grams per plant, so long as environmental conditions remain stable.

Dominant Terpenes in El Jefe

El Jefe’s outdoorsy scent and strong citrus flavour are due, in part, to dominant terpenes caryophyllene, myrcene, and limonene. Caryophyllene is known for its peppery scent and taste with noticeable notes of spice. Myrcene contributes an earthy scent and taste and a physically relaxing vibe. Limonene features a citrusy flavour and aroma and can be found in the rinds of citrus fruits such as lemons.

Dominant Cannabinoids in El Jefe

El Jefe’s THC content of 22-25% makes it a fan favourite for everyday smokers. El Jefe is known for being as relaxing as possible. Its effects will calm both the body and mind, with users barely feeling any of its Sativa genetics. While this bud is strong, it is not strong enough to knock you out after a few small hits. It will, though, put you into a couch-lock, making it ideal for nighttime use. Be warned, the one common side effect is the munchies, so you may want to have some snacks and a cold beverage close by.
